Cheesecake, Secrets and Talking Animals.

I had my first real trial of Lent yesterday when I went to a church meeting and my favorite dessert was served...Cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory...a delicacy I rarely get to taste. Oh glorious White Chocolate Raspberry, sitting right in front of me...and I declined. It was a sad time, indeed.

This week our small group studied Philippians 4:10-13. This passage rang out to me especially this week, and my prayer is to learn to be content this Lenten Season, as are so many of the poor who I have met in various places, and heard stories of in many more. These people drink from the strength of Christ and learn to be content in their need and their hunger. I want to drink from the strength of Christ, Who allows me to be passionate and emotional, Who fully allows me to participate in the happiness and sadness, anger and enjoyment, the cynicism and optimism, and yet remain fully content and joyful in the knowledge that my relationship with Christ comes from being, not doing and His strength and knowledge is above all.

I rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you have been concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
