Early Morning Picture Project Post--March 20 through March 26

Only 2.5 hours left of this over-night shift. My buddy, John Chester, has just signed off the air, leaving me with the well-rested voice of David Ginder. I must admit, I always feel a little bit betrayed when J. Chester leaves me...but lucky for me Carl Kasell will bring me the news for the rest of the morning until I am joined by the NHTRC full time staff and I can go home to my bed.

It's been a remarkably slow night, only one real call, regarding a Craigslist harassment posting, which I could not help with, but rather directed the caller to the email page in the bottom corner...the ridiculous page leaves callers feeling incredibly hopeless about the violating situation they just found themselves in. Craigslist creeps me out...more and more every shift I pull.

Tonight I was also joined by a little friend. A mouse who kept me company, dashing too and fro between a corner desk and the policy room. I don't mind him, as long as he confines himself to the opposite corner and the other room. We enjoyed some classical music together, and griped together about how Mr. Chester got to go home while we were stuck here. Then Mr. Mouse ran into the closet and hasn't been seen since. I guess only I remain.

I've been doing remarkably well at staying awake tonight. Admittedly, though, it is because of the caffine pill I took around 4:00 AM. Hopefully it'll last me until 8:30 (and not a second longer!).

This weekend my sister Christie, Mom S. and my Grandma and Pappap Koons will be joining Luke and I in Washington, DC. I love company, and dI have a feeling it will be a good weekend. For now, I will leave you with some pictures. I have some more research to do before my shift closes!

Friday, March 20, 2009: Luke planned a date to the delicious Georgia Brown's which has hosted Michelle Obama and Jill Biden on at least one occasion since January. It was very good.

Saturday, March 21, 2009: I told you it would be an exciting and eventful weekend. We also went to the circus (we bought the cheap tickets). It was fun...not as amazing as we remembered it, but fun nonetheless. You can see more pictures from the circus here.
Sunday, March 22, 2009: Hiking the "Billy Goat Trail", which existed of climbing on rocks from almost all of its 1.7 miles (making it last a good 3 hours). We took a couple of detours and climbed up several steep rocks. It was really amazing. For more pictures, you can click here.

Monday, March 23, 2009:
On a walk with my Monday partners-in-crime, Henry and Jane. We took a long walk and saw a lot of "cars and trucks" that Henry was very interested in.

: I don't do much on Tuesdays after my 12 hour shifts except sleep. Especially after last Monday's shift, in which I got 9 calls (including one woman in domestic servitude who is leaving her situation tomorrow!). I was pretty tired. But I did wake up in time to see this cute girl and her adorable puppy walking down the road.

Wednesday, March 25, 2009: I love cooking and I love having company over. Wednesday I got to cook for company! Unfortunately, our company couldn't make it, last minute. But I still got to make this yummy food! And I had fun doing it!

Thursday, March 26, 2009:
I will always love flowers and having them in my house. Yes, I know they cost money. Yes, I know they just die. But getting them and arranging them and looking at them and smelling them will forever bring joy to my heart and brighten my home. Therefore, any excuse I have to get them is a good one. Especially when important company like sisters, moms and grandparents are coming. I really love this arrangement that I did in my little yellow tea pot (yes, I'm bragging).

Happy Friday, friends!

I love the flowers in the little yellow tea pot! Very sweet! Sounds like you have a fascinating job at Polaris right now. Would love to hear more about what you guys are doing--maybe we can Skype sometime?

That dinner looks yummy! And I agree, flowers certainly do brighten the place up! I am really impressed with your attitude toward the mouse, I would have been screaming and standing on a table :)

that "billy goat trail" reminds me of that creepy kids story where the billy goats get eaten by the scary troll under the bridge while they're going to find greener pastures. eeeeek. :) love you
