Picture Project Post--January 26th-February 2

It's been a ridiculous week in oh so many ways. Throughout the snowy week I walked around a lot and took pictures of dead trees and headstones in the old graveyard across the street. I still hold that it isn't as morbid as it sounds--in fact, it was quite beautiful, and left me feeling (at least in part) rejuvenated. Snow is falling right now--big fluffy flakes that don't stick to the ground, but stay on your nose and eyelashes (Sound of Music, anyone?). Sunday provided a beautifully sunny day, 50 degree weather and a huge mountain in the middle of Maryland that was perfect for a birthday hike. It was wonderful.

As for today, I'm back in the apartment, looking for jobs and listening to Diane Rehm, her guests and her callers drone on and on about the economy.

Sometimes it's hard to breathe.

January 26, 2009: It was snowing so I tried to take a picture of the snow. It ended up focusing more on the candle, but I liked it anyway.

January 27, 2009:
More snow on Tuesday, only this time it was sticking. This is the walk to the metro.

January 28, 2009:
Wednesday the snow had turned into a thick sheet of ice. Unlike in North Carolina, Luke still had work. And although President Obama scolded DC schools for being closed, it was only the private or charter schools that were closed. DC Public schools were up and running.

January 29, 2009: The heat went out on the 28th, and by the 29th it was about 60 degrees in our apartment. This is Luke's "attempt" at keeping warm over a Yankee Candle.

January 30, 2009: Still waiting for our heat to get fixed. This note lead whoever looked at our heat to sign a sheet of paper--we wanted to make sure they didn't lie about it (like last time...). The heat finally got fixed later that day.

January 31, 2009: I completely forgot to take a picture until we were about to fall asleep. This is only 7 minutes before my 23rd birthday, so I guess it's meaningful. (The reason for the weird faces is that the flash was REALLY bright in our dark room).

February 1, 2009: A birthday hike up Sugarloaf Mountain, Maryland. This was at the summit of the mountain, after a pretty steep hike up--totally worth it. To see more hiking pictures, you can click here.

February 2, 2009
: A camera phone picture (hence the poor quality) of the kids I'll be babysitting for on Monday morning. 1 1/2 year old twins. They really like stickers, so this picture was during a segment of time when they would run back and forth from where I was sitting to the easel putting stickers on the paper, yelling "helicopter on a bus, frogs on a bus, fire trucks on a bus" etc. (There was a bus drawn on the paper). It was cute.
