I went back to the Botanical Gardens this afternoon and walked around and took more pictures and smelled the flowers. I sat for awhile and listened to the water. Then I walked around the outside part. There was some kind of protest going on in front of the Capitol Building. Sitting in the garden I realized how many people in suits walked through the garden without stopping to look at the flowers. I hope I never become one of those people who doesn't stop to look at the flowers.
Now the storm clouds are rolling in. I actually prefer it this way. A sunny day to spend walking around outside and then falling asleep so the rain tapping on the windows.
I realize that it's been quite some time since I have posted my pictures of the week, so there are a lot posted below...

April 11, 2009: Luke and I started our goal of riding all of the Metro lines from one end to the other nonstop. Last Saturday we rode the Red Line all the way from Ft. Totten to Glenmont to Shady Grove and back to Ft. Totten. It took about 3 hours. It was cheap entertainment ($1.35 each) for a Saturday afternoon...and it was interesting to see different people and the places that the Metro can take us.
April 12, 2009: Sunrise service at the Lincoln Memorial. I like this picture was pretty cool because you can see the sun casting it's glow on the people worshiping and the moon at the same time.
April 13, 2009: Another picture my cherished dandelion bouquet.

April 14, 2009: Basically, I spend Tuesday's sleeping. A friend from small group who works the night shift as a nurse gave me an over-night shift survival bag, which included this sleeping mask. It will take some time to get used to, though. I had trouble sleeping with something on my face! Luke and I also met Mom T. for dinner at a pizza place in the city. She was in town for a Red Cross conference. The pizza was so good, and so was our little chocolate lava cake dessert!
April 15, 2009: Rain, Rain go away, come again another day...Luke and Betsey want to go to a Nationals Baseball Game...Rain, Rain go away...the rain didn't go away, but it did mean that we got to see Mom T. one more time. She came over for dinner.

April 16, 2009: The rain cleared, and it was a beautiful day. But instead of taking a picture of the pretty day, I have a goofy picture of my husband "eating" a delicious dinner from Tony's Villa before I headed off for an overnight shift. When you come to visit, we'll go to Tony's. It's delicious. And cheap.
April 17, 2009: It was a week for parents. Mom and Dad S. came in for the weekend. Dad drove in, and Mom found a cheap one-way airplane ticket. Here we were waiting for her flight to come in, and checking out the map posted on the board.

April 18, 2009: Our aforementioned trip to the Botanical Gardens. It was the most beautiful day! 76 degrees and sunny. We had a grand time exploring DC, topped off with a trip to see the Capitol Steps.

April 19, 2009: After saying good by to Mom and Dad S. Luke and I headed to our first Nationals game of the season! We thought we were going to win, but the Marlin's late-game rally earned us another loss...it also sent about half the team back to the minors (oops!). The game was fun, nonetheless.
April 20, 2009: It was an incredibly gloomy day on all fronts. But the flowers that my dad brought me when they came to visit, added to the flowers from Luke when he got home from work brightened my day right up (for the most part...). Flowers remind me that there is beauty even when the world looks bleak. That's why I like having them all around...well, one of the reasons.
April 21, 2009: As I mentioned, the perfect day for overalls and garden shoes. And thanks to the rain yesterday and the sun today everything looked beautifully green.

That's all for now, folks. I have lots of thoughts, but not a lot of words. A song just came on my Pandora bluegrass song called "Rock and Roll". The chorus goes "Jesus is my rock and my name's on the role..." It's a good one.
Speaking of singing, I'll leave you with a story...
The other day Luke was in the bedroom and I was sitting in the living room. Luke started singing one of his made-up songs (I'll interrupt here to tell you that I really love his made-up songs) and I asked him what he was doing (because usually some activity sparks his song...). He said "I'm singin'." A couple minutes later it got really quiet in the bedroom. I called back again "What are you doing?" And he responded "Thinkin' about singin'!" I don't know if that was funny to anyone else, but it made me smile. And in some strange way it kind of characterizes our home.

I am really relating to your love of flowers right now! They are such a great reminder of how life can be beautiful. Good luck with the gardening!
